It’s not every day you get hands-on time with Dyson’s newest products and the chance to hear directly from the engineers behind them.

I recently got a closer look at four new Dyson products covering floorcare, robotics, portable cooling, and cordless cleaning. My focus was on the engineering, the thinking behind how each one is meant to solve a real-world problem.

Below, I’m breaking down what each product does, what stood out in my demos and interviews, and who I think each one is really for.

Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai

The Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai is Dyson’s first robot vacuum that can also wash floors, and that alone makes it one of the most interesting products in the lineup.


It's amazing to learn how much intelligence is built into the cleaning process. In my interview, Fred Whitten explained that it can detect different types of debris and stains, adjust how it cleans, and even go back over a liquid stain until it confirms the mess is gone.


One of the smartest features is how it handles mixed flooring. When it detects carpet, the robot lifts the mop to help keep the carpet dry, while still boosting suction for dry debris. That is exactly the kind of real-world problem people worry about with robot mops, and Dyson clearly put a lot of thought into solving it.


Fred also walked through the self-cleaning dock, which not only recharges the robot, but also cleans and dries the roller and stores debris for extended hands-off use. If you want a robot cleaner that aims to reduce both cleaning time and maintenance, this is the product that felt most ambitious to me.

Dyson PencilVac

The Dyson PencilVac's slim design stands out right away because it changes the cleaning experience. It uses a quad cone counter-rotating omnidirectional head, which sweeps debris inward from both directions into the suction channel. That design, combined with the slim body, makes built for quick movement and easy manoeuvrability around the home.

Another great feature is the lighting. PencilVac has lights at the front and back, which helps reveal dust ahead of you while also showing the cleaned path behind you. 

It uses a syringe-style bin emptying system, which is designed to let you empty it without having to touch the dirt.

Dyson Clean+Wash Hygiene

The Dyson Clean+Wash Hygiene is built for sealed hard floors and is designed to deal with both wet and dry mess at the same time. Instead of relying on a dirty filter system, Dyson keeps the waste at the cleaner head and separates clean water from dirty water as you go.

That was one of the most interesting parts of my conversation with George Drewett. He explained how the roller works with a stainless steel blade to scrape away dirt, debris, and dirty water, pulling it into the dirty water tank while keeping the cleaning process hygienic.

Dyson HushJet Mini Cool fan

Dyson positions the HushJet Mini Cool fan it as a personal portable cooling device, but it is really designed around flexibility. The fan starts in desk mode on its dock, but can also be picked up and taken with you. It has five airflow levels, and at maximum power it is designed to deliver a strong burst of cooling when you need it most.

What makes it different from a basic desk fan is that it is meant to move with you. George showed how it can be used with a lanyard for wearable cooling, and mentioned optional mounting accessories for other setups. That opens up more use cases than just sitting at a desk.

Dyson says it's designed for handheld, desktop, and wearable use, with focused airflow and a compact form factor.
